Character Lore
Commonly Known Facts
Kain Raliston was born in Britain to middle-class parents. His father was a frequently absent businessman, and his devoted mother struggled to connect with her talented son. Kain swiftly outgrew his childhood instructors, displaying incredible intelligence, memory, and scientific aptitude. The local wizard guild quickly offered Kain an apprenticeship, and he studied under Master Magister Gallus. Despite being initially overwhelmed, Kain rapidly adapted, outperforming senior apprentices in raw skill. He was well on his way toward senior apprentice by age 16. However, Kain became intrigued by forbidden magics, viewing them not as evil but as powerful instruments, much like any other, when used ethically.
When his dabbling in these techniques was uncovered at 18, the scandalized Master Gallus demanded that Kain leave his service. He was also commanded to serve penance with the Order of the Silver Serpents by royal decree. As a result, he was assigned as an apprentice to Magister Eris Kenton, a competent magical practitioner. The two served for many years together, both denied advancement due to suspicion of their continued experimentation with dark arts. However, they were given a chance to start anew, under contract with the fledgling Green Company, a newly founded sub-chapter of the Silver Serpents tasked with bolstering their forces gathering in their recently occupied citadel in New Magincia.
